In our efforts to meet the broader health needs of the community, Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF) will continue to support a number of programs initiated by Tomball Regional Medical Center (TRMC), while identifying new opportunities for collaboration.
Community Initiatives
Community Health Needs Assessment
TRHF’s partnerships will be informed by community health needs assessments conducted in December 2011 and March of 2017 for the Tomball, Magnolia, Waller and the surrounding communities (portions of three counties: Harris, Waller and Montgomery). Our assessments focused on two main objectives:
- Determine the current health status of, and healthcare resources for, the service area population; and
- Understand the unmet health needs of the service area population.
Methodology:
The determinants of health guiding the assessments were based on a range of factors that influence health status, including: social and physical; behavioral; biological and genetic; and health services and environmental determinants.
The local health status and unmet health needs were evaluated through publicly-available health related statistics and data as well as community interviews with stakeholders including: elected officials; hospital executives and medical professionals; and education, faith and community leaders.
Results:
Our assessments revealed that our greatest unmet community health needs include the following focus areas: lack of health insurance coverage; dentistry; medical transportation; obesity; adult day care; and heart disease.
Service area data revealed that overall the service area is approximately on par with the Texas state averages in both health determinants and health outcomes. However, that does not necessarily mean that the population is healthy – Texas was ranked 40th among the states in overall health in 2010 – so there is still more work to be done.

The Tomball Hospital Authority owned and operated the Tomball Regional Medical Center from its founding on August 11, 1976 until its sale to a subsidiary of Community Health Systems, Inc. on October 1, 2011. (The hospital was then sold to HCA Healthcare Houston on July 5, 2017) Upon the sale of the hospital in 2011, the Tomball Hospital Authority created the Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF) to administer the proceeds from the sale of the Tomball Hospital Authority for charitable purposes in the surrounding communities.
The Tomball Regional Health Foundation continues to be a vital part of the community, supporting health and wellness initiatives on behalf of its residents and seeking to meet the broader aspects of health needs in the community.
Mission Statement:
To promote wellness and improve health status for all residents in our communities through programs that enhance access to health care, preventative care and health education.
Vision Statement:
To be a catalyst for measurably improving access to healthcare and health status of the Tomball, Magnolia, Waller and surrounding communities.
