Houston, TX, February 22, 2017 - The Rose, the leading nonprofit in breast healthcare for Texas, received a $15,000 contribution, for a second year in a row, from the Tomball Regional

Health Foundation to advance its mission of saving lives. The Tomball Regional Health Foundation’s contribution is directed toward the Empower Her® Sponsorship Program at The Rose. The program supports quality breast health services, advocacy and access to care for all to women within Tomball, Magnolia, Montgomery and surrounding areas.

“The Rose is able to help women in need through the generous donations from community organizations like the Tomball Regional Health Foundation,” says Dorothy Gibbons, CEO and Co-Founder of The Rose. “$15,000 makes a significant difference to women in the community, and receiving this grant for a second time allows us to continue providing hundreds of sponsored mammograms to women in that region.”

For the 2016 fiscal year, the Tomball Regional Health Foundation grant helped The Rose provide 15,711 sponsored (low or no-cost) procedures to 7,113 uninsured patients between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016, which includes 979 sponsored mammograms or diagnostic services to 398 uninsured women from Montgomery and Waller Counties.

These services included:

●     Screening Mammograms: provided through the Mobile Mammography Program and The Rose’s Galleria-area and Southeast Houston imaging centers.

●     Diagnostic Services: including diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, clinical breast exams, bone density tests and office consultations.

●     Patient Navigation and Case Management for Outside Services: such as patient navigation for financial assistance to access costly surgical biopsies, and direct access to breast cancer treatment through participating hospital systems.

“The Rose’s story is inspiring and we are amazed by the impact they have had in our community,” said Marilyn Kinyo, Chief Administrative Officer of the Tomball Regional Health Foundation. “They help us continue to promote wellness and improve the health status for all residents in our communities by providing access to preventative care and health education. We are very excited to be a part of this effort.”

Over the last year, The Rose diagnosed 323 patients with breast cancer - 146 of whom did not have insurance. Among the sponsored, uninsured women seen within Tomball, Magnolia and Waller – The Rose diagnosed a total of 13 patients. Diagnosing women as early as possible is integral to raising the survival rate and ensuring timely treatment.

The Tomball Regional Health Foundation’s grant has made it possible for The Rose to reach more women who would have otherwise been unable to seek diagnostic services. Providing mammography services to women in these communities is imperative to their quality of life and with the grant that is possible.
