Shattered Lives

March 27, 2014, Tomball, TX - Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF) recently committed to be the lead sponsor for the Shattered Lives program for both Tomball High School and at Tomball Memorial High School. Shattered Lives is an anti-drinking and driving program that was created by Mike Valdez, a former Assistant District Attorney of Montgomery County and Holly Pichette, a Paramedic for the Montgomery County Hospital District. The Shattered Lives Program is attempting to make a significant impact on high school juniors and seniors, and their families. This program provides families an opportunity to participate, creating active roles that may reveal just what an impact a poor decision made by the involved student can have on everyone, and that their lives can change or end in the blink of an eye.
Each year thousands of young drivers nationwide lose their lives in automobile accidents. While there are numerous causes to these tragic events, a major contributing factor is the use of alcoholic beverages by teenagers. This will be the first year for the Program at Tomball Memorial High School. “Even though the legal drinking age is 21 it is a widespread problem with our youth and young drivers. Tomball Regional Health Foundation (THRF) is very pleased to participate in these wonderful events and if this saves one teenager’s life it is money well spent,” said Lynn LeBouef, CEO Tomball Regional Health Foundation.

During the course of two days, the Shattered Lives of Tomball Program demonstrates the “real life” timing and results that drinking and driving has on the entire community: friends, family, first responders, students, school officials, hospital employees, and the list goes on… The Tomball program is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers who have collectively donated thousands of man hours to plan, coordinate and participate in this program. “This program touches many lives in many different ways. If one participant, parent or friend reconsiders getting behind the wheel after drinking, we will have succeeded in our mission. I’m pretty certain that has happened more than once.” stated Cheryle Lapsley, Shattered Lives Director.
