TOMBALL (July 29, 2019) – Tomball Regional Health Foundation is happy to announce that they have awarded Boys and Girls Country of Houston, Inc. (BGC) a $25,000 grant to pay for uncovered medical and dental expenses as well as emergency care for the coming year. The funds will be used for dental, orthodontia, vision, prescriptions and medical equipment.

More than 48 years after its founding, Boys and Girls Country (BGC) is still a strong and purposeful community whose primary goal is to provide a home for children from families in crisis to ensure their care, welfare, safety and security. The children who live to BGC have experienced poverty, abuse, neglect, food insecurity and other crises. In addition to furnishing their basic needs, BGC works with each child to help them build relationships, accept responsibilities, and grow and develop within the context of a stable, structured and loving home environment. To date, almost 1,500 children and young adults have found a home at BGC. The main campus can serve 88 children between the ages of 5 and 18, and the College and Career Campus serves young adults over the age of 18.

Because of the support of so many caring friends, BGC kids are succeeding academically, graduating from high school and college, learning independent living skills, taking on responsibilities such as working in a job after school or learning to drive, and growing up with healthy personal relationships – all while still having lots of opportunities to “just be kids.”

Many of the BGC kids arrive without ever having received consistent dental and medical care. Every child at BGC receives required immunizations, twice-yearly dental visits, and routine check-ups, as well as any emergent or special medical or dental attention needed. In 2018, the

BGC kids had 345 medical visits, 171 dental visits, 38 optical visits, 1,224 prescriptions and 49 immunizations.

Boys and Girls Country’s mission is to change the lives of children from families in crisis by loving and nurturing them in a Christian home environment, raising them to become self-sustaining and contributing adults.  "Boys and Girls Country is blessed to have the partnership and support of the Tomball Regional Health Foundation. The children who come to BGC come from hard places.  With this generous grant, we will be able to ensure they receive the medical services they need while in our care. We are truly grateful," commented Vince Duran, Executive Director.

According to Lynn LeBouef, Tomball Regional Health Foundation CEO, “We are honored to be able to help these children receive the health and dental care treatments that they are need. TRHF’s mission is to promote wellness and improve health status for all residents in our communities through programs that enhance access to health care, preventative care and health education and Boys & Girls Country 100% fits our mission.”
