TOMBALL (December 1, 2020) – Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF) is proud to announce funding in the amount of $147,800 for PTSD Foundation of America/Camp Hope to residents in the Tomball, Magnolia and Waller areas as well as assistance for medical personnel. Their mission is to bring hope and healing to Combat Veterans and their families suffering from the effects of combat-related Post Traumatic Stress.
PTSD Foundation believe that by taking a whole person approach, offering evidence-based peer-to-peer mentoring, both on an individual basis and in group settings they can help these drastically reduce the Veteran suicide rate and get them back on the path to a healthy life. The Veteran’s Administration (VA) reports that we are losing 20 plus Veterans every day to suicide. Also, that number does not consider the many Veterans who die each day from alcohol and drug-related incidents that were fueled by an attempt to self-medicate the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The Camp Hope facility in Houston is a refuge for combat veterans with PTSD. Participants enter a six-month residential program that includes intensive guidance and mentoring, behavioral modification recovery, workforce preparation, and professional counseling with 24/7 support.
The Camp Hope program has five goals for their participants:
- Completing the six-month residential program
- Overcoming addiction
- Decreasing suicide risk factors
- Learning coping skills for everyday living
- Acquiring a source of hope, forgiveness, and healing for themselves and their families.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on vulnerable veterans as well as funding for the organization. “Many funding sources have had to cutback or discontinue funding and TRHF is pleased to be able to continue to help the men and women who bravely served our country, said Lynn LeBouef, TRHF CEO.”
“While many trauma programs provided by the VA and other nonprofits across the country, it was critical that our doors remain open to serve those who have fought our nation’s wars. The support from TRHF is integral in our ability to continue our life-saving program’s”, said David Maulsby, Executive Director of the PTSD Foundation of America.
